Midlands (Kzn) Regional Medical Camp

The Sathya Sai Midlands Region, Pietermaritzburg, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, Medical Clinic Held on 27th May 2018.

A Medical Clinic was held at the Orient Heights Primary School, Pietermaritzburg. There was a tremendous turnout of 378 patients. These patients came from the indigent areas of Copesville and the informal settlements of Swapo, Mason and Haniville. Although it started off as an overcast day, this soon turned into a glorious sun-filled morning to warm everyone’s heart. This was certainly attributed to the Love and Grace of Beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the founder of the Sathya Sai Organization. The one dentist present saw 49 patients which included 36 extractions and 13 consultations.

The Midlands Region is fortunate to have their own dental equipment and are in the process of saving for an autoclave/steriliser. There were 2 Optometrists who saw 27 patients. 66 reading glasses were dispensed. There were 9 nurses who did the pre-screening and 120 vitamin A and deworming drops for children . 15 pap smears were also done. The 3 doctors examined and prescribed medication. All medication was dispensed by the 4 pharmacists on duty.

The demand was so great that replenishment medication had to be brought to this camp and for the first time boxes went back empty. The 81 service workers (sevadals) worked till the afternoon assisting the patients to various transport points as well as providing them with sandwiches, oranges and a juice. An unexpected “Sai miracle” unfolded and Sathya Sai Baba’s presence was felt during this episode. He showed His omnipresence as the ‘greatest Doctor of Doctors’ when a little girl fainted. Medical assistance was immediately rendered but the child only responded and opened her eyes a while later after a Sathya Sai Baba’s Brooch was placed on her chest whilst the devotees repeatedly chanted ‘Om Sai Ram‘.

This incident focused everyone’s attention to the spiritual undertone that only such a medical camp can bring to these ordinary people such a loving and free selfless service. The next medical clinic will take place in September 2018 at Cool Air Secondary School which is a 35 minute drive out of Pietermaritzburg.
